Scott Loss, MD, FAA-Certified AME
Scott was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Houston, Texas, before residing in various cities across the United States, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Minneapolis/St. Paul, San Diego, Coeur d’Alene, and most recently Farmington, NM.
He is a seasoned physician with a robust medical background, having earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Baylor University and his MD from the University of Texas in Houston.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Baylor Medical Center in Houston and has since built a diverse medical career.
His expertise spans HIV/AIDS care, outpatient and academic practices, inpatient hospitalist roles, and leadership in Medical Informatics, particularly in electronic medical records and physician order systems.
Alongside his medical career, Scott has a passion for aviation, having been a pilot since 2011. He has flown several aircraft, including Cessna 172s, 182s, taildraggers, and currently pilots a Mooney M20K Rocket.
Combining his medical and aviation interests, Scott serves as an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). In this role, he performs medical evaluations for pilots, determining their fitness for flying based on FAA guidelines, with a focus on ensuring both safety and fairness.

No, my services as an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) are strictly private pay. Unfortunately, I am unable to bill through standard health insurance.
Why does the office address listed have the name "My Kidney Care"? Does this imply I might have kidney disease?
Not at all. The name “My Kidney Care” refers to the practice of my colleague, Dr. Pandya, who is a Nephrologist and fellow pilot. He has kindly allowed me to use his office venue and staff. This has no implication regarding kidney disease or any other health concerns for those making an appointment.

What is the BasicMed process, and does it differ from the AME evaluation?
The BasicMed process is an alternative method of medical certification for pilots, as approved by the FAA. Under BasicMed, any licensed physician can certify pilots to fly within specific restrictions. If your primary care physician does not offer this service, I am happy to assist. However, please note that this visit would be solely for certification purposes, and I would not provide ongoing medical care.
Can student pilots use the BasicMed process for their medical evaluation?
No, student pilots are required to undergo a medical evaluation under the authority of an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). BasicMed is not applicable to student pilots.
